Western Civ II Questions: Week 6

     As I prepare to write a post concerning Western civilization, I stop to ask myself a few questions, find your personal answers if you wish, this will likely come up in my next or previous post and might interest you further.


The English Civil War - The Glorious Revolution

(1650s Europe)

  • Why did Charles I rid of parliament and what caused him to attempt to bring it back under his rule? Does this experiment lead modern thinkers to any important conclusions?

  • How did the levellers inadvertently attempt to fill he whole missing in society with the loss of Christendom and the authority within the old Catholic Church?

  • Why did nobody like Oliver Cromwell? What would drive so many people to desecrate Cromwell like people did?

  • King James II was Catholic, and his infant son was as well, so he was replaced for a Protestant ruler. Why was it important to the people what their king believed?
