As I prepare to write a post concerning ancient Western civilization, I stop to ask myself a few questions, find your personal answers if you wish, this will likely come up in my next or last post and might interest you further.
Influences of Ancient Greek Culture
What caused this sudden shift in art? There is this sudden and miraculous understanding of the way of motion on a human body. Could this be something that was discovered about the human body that is obvious to us now? Or did artists simply start using models and changing the way their art moved? Either way this was an evolution in art and potentially other fields.
When you take a look at how religion affected Greek culture, what could we learn from them, and what has improved over time? Do you think that it is right for a family to combine or stick to one religion, or is it okay for a household to be full of different values? Do you agree with the way a household would stick together using their values? Do yo agree with how much religion affected the way a congregation of people was ran? Things like communism wouldn't even have been thought of because of how important your house was to your overall world view and moralities. Even if no one believes in the same religion as the Greeks did back then, how much did they get right?
What caused this evolution in the meaning of liberty? Could this have simply been the change in context and in regard to the current political situation? Or could this have also relied in the psychology of people as they use the word?
Was Alexander the Great all that great? Yes he was powerful, but does he deserve as much credit as we give him? The history books mainly like to make it out like Alexander wanted to spread Greek culture throughout the cultures, and he did this by bringing them together under one rule. However, it is possible that his goal was to conquer, and the mixing of the cultures was just a biproduct of Alexander collecting as much power and conquering as many peoples as he possibly could before passing away. What is your opinion? Are we truly giving credit where credit is due?
