Art is one of the five humanities: music, philosophy, literature, history, and art. There is a clear correlation between art and the rest of the humanities. Art is a creation born of the human mind, the way a person thinks greatly goes into the art that they make, whether that is subconscious or purposeful.
Culture shapes how art is stylized, and in turn, art shapes culture. During the medieval renaissances religious concepts, architecture, storytelling, world orientation, the capture of thought, the way emotion was portrayed, it was all prevalent.
Paintings on paper, on buildings, and trapped in stained glass all tell a story. Use of light and the difference between abstract and literal were all used to tell stories of politics, biblical text, and so much more. Art even began to be portrayed in writing. The occasional first word of a chapter or paragraph were made elegant and dramatic.
Today art is used for self-expression, but people fail to realize that art in itself is expressive. There doesn’t need to be angst or sorrow or words of affirmation for it to all be spelled out for you, art has always been meaningful. People use their style, their interests, and their religion to shape the idea of their art. Whatever they come up with has its meaning to them, even if they choose to be unaware of it. A simple mountainside could be part of a dream, or a place once visited, or simply something found to be pretty by the artist.
Don’t lose the truth, goodness, and beauty, by trying too hard. Concepts change art based on how the world is being envisioned. During the medieval renaissances people depicted stories with their art and used different styles to dramatize the story. This is the orientation of the world all put into the tip of the pen or paintbrush. Psychology, life experiences, history, literature, style and interest all go into the beauty of art in its most natural state.
