The Western world has changed a lot over the centuries, and that largely has little to do with technological advancements. (Although there is something to be said about that as well.) Culture has changed, dividing people, and creating new ideas.
Religion has been a big part of this shift in history as it affects our daily lives. Before the end of the fifteenth century, all of Europe was Catholic, which was, at the time, synonymous with Christian. Christendom was a big concept, everyone had the same Christian and family values to uphold, and everyone had enough in common religiously, that Christianity affected politics.
It used to be that the pope could claim the king illegitimate if the king was making an immoral or tyrannical decision, so as to reign him back in and work with the community again. Now, the Western world has a president, which was a fine concept to start with, but the political system has grown more tyrannical and controlling over the last hundred years or so. This was largely caused by the Protestant Reformation, which caused the collapse of Christendom, which slowly deteriorated the idea of Christian values and a moral standard throughout politics.
You can see the effect the loss of Christian culture has had on our modern world, most buildings looking like some factory, whereas in old times, any important or community building was built with a Roman or Gothic style in mind, particularly churches, to welcome community in and showcase the beauties of the world.
Churches have slowly become less about family values, and everyone’s views on the Bible are divided by personal customization and an idea of liberty. Although, these same people looking for boundless liberty in their religious views live in the world of cancel culture. Cancel culture also having been a long lasting thing throughout the Western world.
The world has changed and evolved, from the good and the bad. It is important to look upon how we got here, and what we can learn from the past. There is beauty in ancient things, because one way or another, the world used to be full of pure ideals. Nearly everyone had common ground, a common ground that diminished cynical thinking and welcomed the idea to worship the beauty in the world that comes from God. But people muddy the waters year after year.
